Three traffic police wardens were martyred on Monday after unidentified assailants opened fire on a traffic police van in Tank, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Two civilians also sustained serious injuries in the attack. The incident took place in the Waziristan area of Tank, according to police.
The martyred personnel were identified as Peer Khalid, Warden Gul Amin and Warden Saleemullah.
Security Forces Launch Search Operation
Following the attack, security personnel quickly cordoned off the area. Police and other security officials then launched a search operation to locate the attackers.
Meanwhile, a heavy police contingent reached the scene shortly after the incident. Officials shifted the bodies and injured civilians to Civil Hospital Tank for further medical procedures.
Police said they had started an investigation into the attack. However, authorities had not immediately announced any arrests or confirmed the identities of the attackers.
The incident comes as security forces continue to face attacks in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Tank and surrounding districts have witnessed security challenges linked to militancy in recent years.
Mohsin Naqvi Condemns Attack
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the gun attack on the traffic police vehicle.
Naqvi expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of the three police personnel. He also extended his condolences and sympathies to the families of the martyred officers.
The interior minister said the nation salutes the sacrifices made by police personnel in the fight against terrorism.
Moreover, Naqvi said the government stands with the bereaved families during the difficult period. He added that the sacrifices of those killed while fighting terrorism would not go in vain.
For now, police continue to investigate the attack and search for those responsible. Authorities are also assessing the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
