Pakistan’s proposed Auto Policy 2026–31 could make the Suzuki Alto more affordable by reducing taxes on smaller vehicles. The draft policy proposes eliminating the 2.5% Federal Excise Duty (FED) on locally manufactured and imported cars with engine capacities of up to 1,000cc.
The proposal could benefit thousands of Pakistani consumers who consider the Suzuki Alto an affordable option for daily transportation. However, buyers must wait for final approvals before expecting any official price reductions.
Proposed Tax Relief Could Lower Alto Prices
Under the proposed policy, the government plans to remove the existing 2.5% FED on eligible vehicles. Consequently, the Suzuki Alto’s different variants could become cheaper if manufacturers pass the full tax benefit on to customers.
The Alto VXR currently costs Rs2,994,861, while the VXR AGS carries a price of Rs3,166,480. Meanwhile, the VXL AGS costs Rs3,326,446, meaning buyers could save thousands of rupees if the government implements the proposed exemption.
Estimated reductions could range from approximately Rs73,000 to Rs81,000, depending on the variant. Nevertheless, these figures represent potential savings rather than officially announced price cuts.
Final Approval Remains Crucial for Buyers
The proposed tax exemption forms part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to improve vehicle affordability and reform the automotive industry. Additionally, the new policy aims to strengthen local manufacturing, encourage investment and improve the sector’s competitiveness.
The government also plans to introduce wider automotive reforms through the 2026–31 framework. These measures could influence vehicle prices, production costs and consumer choices over the coming years.
However, the draft still requires further approvals before the proposed tax changes can take effect. Therefore, Suzuki Alto buyers should avoid assuming that dealerships will immediately reduce prices.
If authorities approve the exemption and manufacturers pass on the savings, the Alto could become more accessible to budget-conscious households. Until then, buyers should follow official announcements for confirmation of revised prices and implementation timelines.
