The Punjab government has approved body cameras for Suthra Punjab field monitoring officers to strengthen oversight of cleanliness operations.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reviewed the programme during a meeting focused on its performance across the province. Officials also briefed the meeting on worker payments, digital challans and sanitation complaints.
The new cameras will allow authorities to monitor field activities more closely. They could also provide a record of inspections and help improve accountability among monitoring teams.
Body Cameras to Strengthen Field Monitoring
The government decided to equip Suthra Punjab monitoring officers with body cameras as part of wider monitoring reforms. The cameras will help officials track field activities during cleanliness inspections. They may also provide additional oversight when officers visit different areas.
Moreover, recorded footage could help authorities review complaints and assess how teams perform their duties.
The decision comes as the government continues to expand digital monitoring tools across Punjab.
Digital Challans Launched Through Safe City Cameras
Officials told the meeting that Suthra Punjab has also introduced digital challans through Safe City cameras. In Lahore, the Anti-Littering Squad used Safe City cameras to issue 2,156 challans.
The system allows authorities to identify littering violations through camera footage. It also supports enforcement without relying entirely on physical monitoring.
Meanwhile, the government has placed 37,852 dustbins across Punjab.
Officials said the dustbins aim to make waste disposal easier for residents. Better access to disposal points could also support efforts to reduce litter in public spaces.
Worker Payments Completed in Most Tehsils
The meeting also reviewed payments to Suthra Punjab workers.
Officials reported that workers had received their payments on time in most tehsils across the province.
Timely payments remain an important part of maintaining field operations. The programme depends on a large workforce to handle waste collection and cleanliness activities.
The government is also monitoring complaints about poor sanitation in different areas.
MDs Removed Over Poor Performance
The review meeting examined complaints about unsatisfactory cleanliness conditions.
As a result, the government removed the managing directors of Suthra Punjab operations in Kasur, Faisalabad and Okara.
Officials linked the action to poor performance in the respective areas.
The government also decided that MDs removed over poor performance will not receive other postings.
Meanwhile, the chief minister directed authorities to issue warnings to relevant MDs over poor sanitation conditions.
Punjab Expands Monitoring of Cleanliness Operations
The latest measures show the government’s focus on stronger oversight of the Suthra Punjab initiative.
