A man has been arrested after allegedly opening fire near the vehicle of Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar in Lahore’s Defence A area.
The incident occurred late on Saturday night. However, no injuries or property damage were reported. Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the motive behind the firing.
Authorities also recovered the weapon allegedly used during the incident and took the suspect’s vehicle into custody.
Suspect Allegedly Opened Aerial Fire After Overtaking Minister’s Vehicle
According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Osama, allegedly overtook the minister’s vehicle before opening aerial fire.
The incident happened while Atta Tarar was travelling through the Defence A area of Lahore.
Although the firing caused concern, officials confirmed that everyone remained safe. Furthermore, no damage was reported to the minister’s vehicle.
Following the incident, police arrested the suspect and seized the weapon believed to have been used.
Safe City Surveillance Helped Police Trace Suspect
Police said investigators located the suspect with the assistance of the Safe City Authority.
Officials used advanced surveillance technology to identify and trace the accused shortly after the incident.
In addition, law enforcement officers impounded the suspect’s vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are now examining all available evidence to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the firing.
Atta Tarar Says Incident Was Not Serious
Later, Atta Tarar issued a brief statement about the incident.
He said, “A youth had gone wild while celebrating the weekend. There is nothing more to that.”
The minister also added, “By the grace of the Almighty Allah” he was safe.
Moreover, he said he did not wish to comment further because he did not consider the matter a serious one.
Minister’s Mother Shares Her Account
Atta Tarar’s mother, Sajida Tarar, also spoke about the incident.
She clarified that the firing was not intended to target her son.
She said, “My son was returning home at 3:00 AM when he heard gunshots near his vehicle.”
According to her, Atta Tarar followed the suspect’s vehicle and immediately informed the police.
She further said, “Police took prompt action and arrested the car’s driver.”
Sajida Tarar also stated that the suspect was not in his senses and was unaware that the vehicle belonged to the federal minister.
Additionally, she confirmed that no security guard was accompanying Atta Tarar at the time.

Police have continued their investigation following the arrest.
According to initial findings, the suspect reportedly has a criminal past.
Investigators revealed that he had previously been arrested in connection with a similar firing incident.
