ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan will hold a full court reference on August 7 to honour Justice Musarrat Hilali ahead of her retirement, according to an official notice issued on Monday.
Honouring a distinguished judicial career
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi will preside over the ceremony at 10:30am in Courtroom No. 1. Moreover, all Supreme Court judges, the Attorney General for Pakistan, representatives of the Pakistan Bar Council, the Supreme Court Bar Association, and members of the legal fraternity will attend.
During the reference, speakers will pay tribute to Justice Hilaliโs contributions to the judiciary, the rule of law, and public service.
Historic milestones in judiciary
Justice Musarrat Hilali was born in Peshawar on August 8, 1961. Under the Constitution, she will retire on August 7 after attaining the age of 65.
She created history in April 2023 by becoming the first woman Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court. Later, in July 2023, she joined the Supreme Court as the first judge from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and only the second woman to serve on Pakistanโs apex court.
Justice Hilali enrolled as an advocate in 1983. Furthermore, she became Khyber Pakhtunkhwaโs first woman Additional Advocate General and later served as the provinceโs Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment before joining the judiciary.
