A stray dog reportedly fled from a government hospital in India carrying a bag containing gold, silver jewellery and cash worth around Rs400,000.
The unusual incident occurred between Sunday and Monday night at a government hospital in Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh.
Lata Bai Valmiki, a resident of Kayampur, had accompanied her son, who was receiving treatment for a hand injury.
She feared leaving her jewellery at home, so she brought gold and silver ornaments to the hospital.
She also carried around Rs2,000 in cash and placed the handbag near her son’s hospital bed.
However, the bag disappeared sometime between 1am and 6am, prompting the family to contact police.
CCTV Reveals Unexpected Suspect
Head Constable Ajay Solanki took charge of the investigation after receiving the complaint. He reviewed CCTV footage covering hospital wards, corridors, entrances and exits.
The footage revealed that a stray dog had picked up the handbag and carried it out of the hospital. Police then tracked the animal’s movements through the CCTV recordings.
Eventually, officers recovered the bag along with the jewellery, cash and other valuables.
Police Recover Missing Valuables
The quick police response allowed Valmiki to recover her belongings without any reported loss.
The unusual case has nevertheless raised concerns about security arrangements inside the government hospital. Authorities may now face questions over how a stray dog entered the ward and moved through the facility undetected.
The incident also highlights concerns about the safety of patients and their belongings inside public healthcare facilities.
