Former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz has been appointed as the chief selector of the Pakistan men’s selection committee. His first assignment will be the selection of the national men’s squad for the upcoming Test series against Australia and the T20I series against New Zealand.
Wahab expressed his honor and willingness to work for the betterment of Pakistan cricket, emphasizing the importance of selecting well-rounded squads with the necessary skill sets.
He highlighted the upcoming Australia tour and the T20I series against New Zealand, aiming to develop a formidable unit leading up to the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies in June next year. Wahab emphasized the significance of giving weightage to top performers in domestic cricket.
Wahab Riaz also mentioned his good rapport with Pakistan Men’s Team Director Mohammad Hafeez, and the two will work closely for the success of Pakistan cricket. He expressed his commitment to being available to players for feedback and advice.
Additionally, former Pakistan cricketer Sohail Tanvir has been appointed as the head of the junior selection committee. Tanvir’s first assignment will be the selection of the Pakistan U19 squad for the 2023 ACC U19 Asia Cup and the ICC U19 World Cup.
Wahab Riaz, who made his international debut in 2008, represented Pakistan in 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is, picking up 237 wickets and scoring 1200 runs across the three formats. He was Pakistan’s second-most successful bowler in World Cups, registering 35 wickets across three editions of the tournament.
