T20 World Cup 2024

Usain Bolt, the ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, alongside Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and a host of other esteemed cricketing figures, enjoyed their first glimpse of the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium from premium seats, as reported by the International Cricket Council.

Accompanying them were Corey Anderson and Monank Patel from the USA cricket team, cricketing icon Sir Curtly Ambrose from the West Indies, Liam Plunkett from England, John Starks from the NBA’s New York Knicks, Elena Delle Donne from the WNBA’s USA team, Bartolo Colon from the MLB’s New York Yankees-Mets, Victor Cruz from the NFL’s New York Giants, and Ibtihaj Muhammad representing fencing for the USA.

The event commenced with all the stars autographing a cricket bat, which will be showcased at the venue throughout the eight matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to unfold from June 3rd to June 12th.

Bolt voiced his confidence in the venue, anticipating an electrifying cricketing experience, and highlighted the significance of hosting such an event in the USA, hinting at the possibility of cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 LA Olympics.

The ICC shared the excitement on Instagram, captioning, “Usain Bolt and stars from around the globe welcome you to New York for the #T20WorldCup.”

He commended the stadium’s design, emphasizing its provision of an exceptional viewing experience for spectators.

The inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in New York will kick off with an opening match between Sri Lanka and South Africa at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on June 3rd.

Brett Jones, the CEO of T20 USA Inc, hailed the event as a fitting introduction to cricket in the USA.

“Having Curtley Ambrose, Liam Plunkett, Shoaib Malik, Corey Anderson, and Monak Patel here and witnessing their reaction to the stadium and playing surface was truly special. It gives us a genuine insight into what the fans can anticipate next month,” he remarked.

The temporary stadium boasts a seating capacity of 34,000, marking a pioneering venture in international cricket and standing as the largest ever constructed in the United States.

CEO Brett Jones of T20 USA Inc echoed the sentiment, calling the event a fitting embrace of cricket in the USA.
