Shahid Afridi gets key role in PCB, appointed as chief of interim SC

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board took a major decision on Saturday and honoured the cricket hero Shahid Afridi with his appointment as chief of interim selection committee of the PCB.

Meanwhile, former cricketers Abdul Razak and Iftikhar Anjum were also included in the PCB’s selection committee. Haroon Rashid (member Management Committee) will be the Convener of the Selection Committee of the PCB.

The PCB has taken these major decisions just two days after the appointment of Najam Sethi as the chairman of the PCB in place of Ramiz Raja.

These important appointments indicate a major change in the PCB’s selection mechanism aimed at improving the performance of the team.

Shahid Afridi has been criticising the poor selection of the team which failed to achieve the desired goals in T20 Asia Cup and T20 World Cup in recent months.

Furthermore, Wasim Akram, the King of Swing and former fast bowler, in his recent book, has also exposed nepotism in team’s selection system.

Therefore, keeping in view a growing criticism against national squad’s poor selection mechanism, the PCB has honoured the former best cricketers with their appointment in the selection committee.
