PM Shehbaz gives go-ahead for the appointment of Najam Sethi as Chairman of PCB

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today gave approval for the appointment of Najam Sethi as chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The Premier approved the appointment of Najam Sethi, a renowned media personality and former chairman of PCB, to replace Ramiz Raja, the incumbent chairman.

Quoting sources, Geo TV reported today that the Prime Minister Office will issue four different notifications pertaining to new chairman’s appointment and change in PCB laws.

One of the new notifications will abolish the 2019 constitution of Pakistan Cricket Board.

Meanwhile, the other will notify the termination of the two names nominated for the top slot of the PCB under the 2019 constitution. The third notification will restore the 2014 constitution.

The fourth notification then will notify the establishment of a “set up” to run the existing board.

Interestingly, many media reports and speculations were surfacing in recent weeks about the replacement of Ramiz Raja.

Finally, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has ended speculations by approving the appointment of Najam Sethi on Wednesday as new Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board.

A few weeks ago, Ramiz Raja had claimed that the coalition government has asked him to continue to work as Chairman of the PCB.

Ramiz Raja was appointed PCB chairman on September 13, 2021, by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Najam Sethi, who is considered a close confidant of Sharifs, is expected to take the charge of PCB chairman soon after the issuance of the notification.
