PCB Set to Appoint Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie as Coaches

Coaches

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made significant decisions regarding the coaching staff for the men’s national cricket team, as per sources.

South Africa’s Gary Kirsten and Australia’s Jason Gillespie have been chosen for coaching roles, with Kirsten appointed as the white-ball coach and Gillespie selected as the red-ball coach for the Green Shirts.

While an official announcement is pending, the PCB is expected to finalize the appointments following the completion of formalities.

The board had advertised the coaching positions on its website and set the application deadline for April 15.

These appointments come ahead of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand scheduled to commence from April 18.

Moreover, the Pakistan cricket team’s focus is also on the T20 World Cup slated to take place in the United States and West Indies in June.

The vacancies for these coaching positions emerged after Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick were reassigned to roles at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore in November 2023, following changes in PCB’s setup. The trio officially vacated their positions in January of the following year.

Mickey Arthur assumed the role of Director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team in April 2023, while Bradburn took over as the head coach of the Pakistan national men’s side earlier in the same year. Meanwhile, former South African cricketer Puttick served as a batting coach since April 2023.

Additionally, the PCB has announced a position for an assistant head coach, with applications accepted until April 20.

Requirements for the role include a minimum Level II coaching accreditation and three years of experience with an international team, franchise, or domestic team.

These strategic moves reflect PCB’s efforts to strengthen the coaching setup and enhance the team’s performance in upcoming competitions.
