Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed profound disappointment in the performance of the Pakistani cricket team following their loss against India, stating that such a dismal showing warrants a “major surgery” for the team.
Addressing reporters after the Pakistan vs India match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, Naqvi conveyed his disappointment, labeling the defeat against India as disappointing on all fronts.
Despite a commendable effort by the bowlers, who limited India to 119 runs after winning the toss, Pakistan suffered a humiliating defeat, losing by six runs.
Naqvi, well-aware of the team dynamics, expressed his initial belief that minor adjustments could suffice, but following the poor performance, he emphasized the necessity for a substantial overhaul. He assured that significant changes would be forthcoming.
Highlighting the imperative to elevate the team’s performance, Naqvi acknowledged that the current state of affairs is far from satisfactory and stressed the urgency of improvement.
Looking ahead, Naqvi emphasized the importance of preparing a competitive squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, signaling a shift towards incorporating fresh talent into the team.
Asserting the nation’s expectation for excellence from the cricket team, Naqvi reiterated the commitment to transform the Pakistani cricket team into a formidable global contender.
The narrative also touched upon Pakistan’s batting woes, emphasizing the team’s missed opportunity to secure victory against India and the consequent challenges they face in the tournament.
Despite Mohammad Rizwan’s steady contribution, Pakistan faltered in their chase, succumbing to India’s bowling prowess, particularly Jasprit Bumrah’s impactful performance.
The defeat leaves Pakistan in a precarious position, with limited prospects of qualification for the next stage, pending the outcomes of other matches.
India, meanwhile, maintains an unblemished record in Group A with two consecutive victories, while Pakistan finds itself at the bottom with zero points from two defeats, including their upset loss to the United States in their opening game.
