PCB and PSL Franchise Owners Agree to Hold Playoffs in England

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise owners have reached a conditional agreement to host the playoffs, including the final, of the 10th edition of the PSL in England. However, this agreement comes with a request from the franchises for compensation in case of losses incurred due to hosting matches overseas.

In a virtual meeting between PCB and PSL franchise owners, several important matters were discussed, including finalizing the window for PSL 2025 and scheduling matches in Peshawar and Quetta. The addition of two new teams in future plans was also deliberated upon, with PSL 2025 set to feature six teams in the final event, paving the way for the inclusion of two additional teams in 2026.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed the possibility of franchises signing players directly and participating in the drafting process. Each franchise will now have the option to sign individual players directly, marking a potential shift in the player acquisition process.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the importance of considering Peshawar and Quetta as potential venues for HBL PSL matches, emphasizing the need to create a supportive environment in both cities. He expressed a strong desire to reintegrate domestic matches into Peshawar and Quetta’s cricket calendar for the 2024-25 season.

Additionally, PCB believes that aligning the PSL and Indian Premier League (IPL) windows in April/May will benefit players and fans alike, facilitating the growth and success of the league.

As the 10th edition of the PSL approaches, it marks the final tournament with six teams, signaling a transformative phase as the league prepares to expand with the addition of two new teams in 2025. This evolution underscores the continued growth and popularity of the PSL within the global cricketing landscape.
