In response to the backlash received, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has incorporated Imran Khan into their revised World Cup promotional video. However, it appears that the former captain Wasim Akram, who had criticized the cricket board’s decision, was excluded.
The updated video was published on the PCB’s official ‘X’ platform after social media users strongly criticized the cricket board. Netizens demanded that cricket should remain separate from politics.
Nonetheless, another omission was noticed. Wasim Akram, who had been the standout performer in the 1992 World Cup final, was absent from the video.
It is challenging to include every cricketer who has represented Pakistan on the international stage. However, Wasim Akram had been vocal in expressing his discontent with the PCB for not featuring Imran Khan in a previous video commemorating Pakistan cricket’s history.
Wasim Akram holds the distinction of having the highest number of Test wickets (414). He also has the record for the most instances of taking five wickets per innings (25) for Pakistan.
The Sultan of Swing was taken aback by the PCB’s omission of Imran Khan from their video recounting Pakistan cricket’s history. Akram shared on ‘X’ that the PCB should withdraw the video and offer an apology for this exclusion of Imran Khan.
He emphasized that regardless of any political disparities, Imran Khan remains an emblematic figure in global cricket. He also underscored that Imran Khan had paved the way for Pakistan’s triumphs in cricket.
PCB Gets Criticism For Minus-Imran Khan Video
Earlier, the PCB faced criticism for excluding cricketing legend Imran Khan from a video detailing the history of the sport. Imran Khan, who is now 70 years old, achieved renown as a former cricket luminary, notably leading Pakistan to a triumphant Cricket World Cup victory in 1992. He subsequently transitioned into politics and served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022.
The release of the video on the official social media channels of the cricket board evoked strong criticism from Pakistanis. Many expressed their discontent, highlighting Imran Khan’s status as one of the greatest figures in the game’s history.
