ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has requested foolproof security for its cricket team during the upcoming 50-over World Cup set to take place in India in October. The Pakistani Foreign Office (FO) emphasized that India is responsible for providing comprehensive security to the Pakistan cricket team. The FO has requested an environment free from fear and harassment.
The announcement to send the national cricket team to India for the World Cup was made last week. The high-profile encounter between India and Pakistan will be hosted in Ahmedabad on 15 October. The cricket rivalry between the two countries is intensified due to long-standing political tensions, and matches between them are closely watched by fans around the world.
Pakistan’s cricket captain, Babar Azam, emphasized that their attention is not solely on the match against India. Instead, their aim is to excel against all teams in order to advance to the World Cup final. The tickets for the Pakistan-India match are set to go on sale on September 3.
India Rejects ‘Special Treatment’ To Pakistan
Earlier, India declined to provide any “special treatment” to Pakistan in response to the country’s request for security assurance for its cricket team during their visit to India for the World Cup this year. Last week, Pakistan’s foreign ministry approved the team for travel to India for the world cup. Yet, the foreign ministry expressed concerns about the national team’s security in India.
The official spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, stated that the Pakistan team would not receive any special treatment. He emphasized that the Pakistan team holds the same level of importance as any other team. He stated that they will receive proper foolproof security coverage as required.
