Nida Dar to lead Pakistan’s women cricket team to Bangladesh tour

Nida Dar

ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh approaches, the national women’s cricket team has unveiled its 15-member squad. Nida Dar is the captain of the women cricket team.

Saleem Jaffar, the chief of the national selection committee announced this on Thursday.

The Pakistan squad is set to depart for Bangladesh on October 20. They will participate in a six-match white-ball series, including three One-Day Internationals (ODIs). The matches are part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25.

The full schedule for this series will be provided by the host board in due course.

One notable return to the national side is the experienced Iram Javed, who makes a comeback after a one-year absence.

This right-handed batter was last seen representing Pakistan in the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham in 2022. Furthermore, Iram also featured for the Super Women’s team against Amazon in three women’s exhibition T20 matches earlier this year in Rawalpindi.

Conversely, Shawaal Zulfiqar and Syeda Aroob Shah have been omitted from the squad that played in the white-ball series against South Africa last month in Karachi. Additionally, Fatima Sana, who suffered an injury during the second ODI against South Africa, is still in the process of recovery.

Both Shawaal and Aroob are among the 28 probables selected for the Pakistan women’s emerging team. Currently they are participating in a training camp in Muridke. The emerging team is slated to engage in a bilateral series and a triangular tournament featuring the emerging cricket teams of West Indies and Thailand later this month.

The Pakistan squad for the Bangladesh tour includes:

  • Nida Dar (captain)
  • Aliya Riaz
  • Bismah Maroof
  • Diana Baig
  • Ghulam Fatima
  • Iram Javed
  • Muneeba Ali (wk)
  • Najiha Alvi (wk)
  • Nashra Sundhu
  • Natalia Parvaiz
  • Sadaf Shamas
  • Sadia Iqbal
  • Sidra Amin
  • Umm-e-Hani
  • Waheeda Akhtar

Non-travelling reserves:

  • Amber Kainat
  • Omaima Sohail
  • Sidra Nawaz (wk)

Support staff for the players includes:

  • Nahida Khan (manager)
  • Mauhtashim Rashid (interim head coach)
  • Saleem Jaffar (bowling coach)
  • Taufiq Umar (batting coach)
  • Abdur Rehman (spin bowling coach for camp only)
  • Muhammad Asfand Yar (strength and conditioning coach)
  • Syed Nazir Ahmed (media manager)
  • Rifat Asghar Gill (physiotherapist)
  • Zubair Ahmed (analyst)

Chief Selector Saleem Jaffar explained, “Our selection committee has meticulously assessed the squad for the Bangladesh tour, striving to strike the right balance between batting and bowling strengths. We are confident that this squad is well-prepared to face the challenges in Bangladesh.”

“Shawaal Zulfiqar has been excluded from the squad to provide her with further grooming before representing at the international level again. We have reintroduced the experienced Iram Javed to fortify our batting order, particularly in Bangladesh conditions.”

He added, “Fatima Sana is progressing on the path to recovery, and we are committed to granting her the necessary time to be fully prepared for the upcoming away series against New Zealand, where our selection committee believes the right-arm fast bowler will be more productive.”
