Men’s Triathlon at Paris 2024 Olympics Postponed Due to Water Quality Concerns in River Seine

The Olympics 2024 organizing committee postponed men’s triathlon event scheduled for July 30 at 8:00 AM following a meeting on water quality in River Seine held earlier today.

The meeting, which took place at 3:30 AM, was attended by representatives from Paris 2024, World Triathlon, their Technical and Medical Delegates, the International Olympic Committee, Météo France, the City of Paris, and the Prefecture of the Île-de-France Region.

Due to substandard water quality levels in the Seine, the event has been rescheduled for July 31 at 10:45am.

The women’s triathlon of the Olympics will proceed as planned on July 31 at 8:00am. Both events are contingent upon forthcoming water tests meeting World Triathlon’s established thresholds for safe swimming. An additional contingency day is set for August 2 for further considerations.

Paris 2024 and World Triathlon emphasized that athlete health remains their top priority. Tests conducted today indicated that water quality in the Seine was not adequate to ensure athlete safety.

Rainfall on July 26 and 27 has affected water quality, necessitating the postponement. While there has been some improvement, certain areas of the swim course still exceed acceptable limits.

Athletes will receive updates on the postponement and real-time information about the situation. Details regarding tickets and broadcast information for the rescheduled events on July 31 will be provided soon.

There will be a meeting at 8am between World Triathlon and the coaches to discuss further information and the updated schedule for July 31. Coaches will receive links to attend the meeting shortly.
