Inzamam-ul-Haq Resigns from his Position as Chief Selector

ISLAMABAD: Inzamam-ul-Haq, the renowned former Pakistani cricket captain and Chief Selector, has taken the decision to resign from his post amid the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. His resignation comes in the wake of allegations that he held a stake in a company responsible for managing cricket players.

His resignation was formally conveyed to Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee. This decision was prompted by discussions and investigations surrounding potential conflicts of interest and allegations related to his association with the player management company.

Speaking exclusively to Samaa TV, Inzamam-ul-Haq addressed the ongoing developments. He stressed the importance of maintaining a focus on these concerns and emphasized his commitment to addressing any issues that may have arisen.

The former chief selector disclosed that he had approached the PCB to request an inquiry into the allegations. Subsequently, a five-member committee was established to conduct a comprehensive probe into the matter. To ensure transparency, accountability, and good governance, he made the decision to step down from his role as Chief Selector until the inquiry’s conclusion.

He conveyed his readiness to cooperate with the PCB during the inquiry and expressed his willingness to work together to resolve the matter. He underlined the deep emotional impact such allegations can have, especially when they lack substantial evidence. As a cricketer with a distinguished 20-year career, he emphasized the hurt caused by unverified comments.

This development underscores the importance of addressing issues related to conflicts of interest in cricket and promoting transparency within the national cricket team. It is a step taken in the best interests of the public, cricket fans, and the sport’s integrity.
