Gautam Gambhir, India’s national cricket coach and former Member of Parliament, has received a fresh death threat via email, allegedly associated with the Islamic State (ISIS). The message, sent with the subject line “ISIS,” contained a chilling three-word note: “I kill you.”
In response, Gambhir filed a formal complaint with the authorities, prompting the Delhi Police’s cyber crime unit to launch an investigation. Officials are working to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender. Due to the sensitive nature of the case, further details have not been disclosed.
Gambhir, known for his vocal stance against terrorism, recently condemned the attack in Pahalgam on the social media platform X, stating: “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”
This is not the first time Gambhir has been threatened. Back in 2021, he reportedly received a similar threat from a group calling itself “ISIS Kashmir.”
The 42-year-old recently returned from a family vacation in France and has remained mostly out of the public eye. His break coincides with the ongoing IPL 2025 season, during which national coaching staff typically step back from the limelight.
Gambhir was appointed as India’s head coach in July last year, taking over from Rahul Dravid. His early tenure was marred by a string of defeats, including a whitewash by New Zealand and a series loss in Australia. However, India’s recent victory in the Champions Trophy helped restore confidence in his leadership.
Authorities have confirmed that necessary security measures have been implemented for Gambhir and his family as the investigation continues.
