Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin fainted due to cardiac arrest during a game versus the Cincinnati Bengals, creating a life-or-death situation that demanded fast intervention and quick thinking.
Hamlin’s pulse revived just in time thanks to the courageous efforts of on-field trainer Denny Kellington, who conducted CPR for over 10 minutes.
Hamlin thanked Kellington for his rapid thinking, saying that he “was literally the saviour of my life, you know, administering CPR on me.”
Although Hamlin’s recovery has been a monument to his fortitude, he recognises that Kellington’s presence of mind and commitment to perform his job right saved his life.
“If someone hadn’t shown up that day with a clear mind and a willingness to be present at the moment and do their job correctly, I wouldn’t be here today,” he said recently.
Following this life-saving episode, the need of learning CPR, particularly among young people, has become a critical topic of discussion.
Hamlin’s recovery demonstrates that anybody can be a lifesaver if they prioritise the work at hand and put their personal concerns aside.
Kellington’s prompt steps and Hamlin’s own tenacity enabled Hamlin’s rapid departure from the hospital, just nine days after being placed on a ventilator.
Although Hamlin wants to continue playing professional football.
