The BJP sees Shami’s potential candidacy as a significant boost, particularly in minority-dominated areas where his popularity could enhance the party’s electoral prospects. The focus is on nominating Shami from the Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency, which has been in the spotlight following recent incidents of violence in Sandeshkhali village.
Shami, known for his remarkable performances in cricket, particularly in the ODI World Cup 2023, has yet to respond to the proposal. Born in 1990 in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, Shami rose to prominence during the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy before making his mark in international cricket.
The cricketer’s statement expressing no objections to the construction of the Ram Mandir has garnered attention, highlighting his potential alignment with certain political sentiments.
