NEW DELHI: India’s Board of Control for Cricket made a historic move to encourage gender equality in India’s most popular sport.
“Pay equity policy” has been implemented for contracted Indian women cricketers by BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah.
Both male and female cricketers will receive the same match fee.
Shah tweeted the following when announcing the major choice: “I’m happy to report that @BCCI has taken the first step in combating discrimination. We are putting into effect a pay equity policy for the @BCCIWomen cricketers we have contracted. As we enter a new era of gender equality in cricket, the match price will be the same for male and women players “.
Despite the fact that match fees are independent of annual pay packages, there will still be significant wage gaps between men and their female colleagues.
Female cricketers are to be paid the same as Men. The cost for a test cricket match will be Rs 15 lakh, an ODI match Rs 6 lakh, and a T20 match Rs 3 lakh, respectively.
“The same match fee will be paid to the @BCCIWomen cricketers as it is to the men. Test ($15 lakh), ODI ($6 lakh), and T20I ($15,000) (INR 3 lakhs). My promise to our female cricket players was pay parity, and I appreciate the Apex Council’s backing “Shah composed.
Media reports state that this is a nearly four-fold increase for women in Test matches, a six-fold surge in ODIs, and a three-fold increase in T20 matches.
The guys in India will still make a lot more money, though.
According to prior BCCI releases, the top-graded players’ contracts for the 2020–21 season were valued about 70 million rupees, including superstar Virat Kohli.
This is about 14 times what women in the top bracket receive.
