The Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) has imposed a five-year ban on key player Ehsanullah Jannat due to corruption charges. Jannat, a prominent top-order batsman, was found guilty of breaching both ACB and ICC anti-corruption codes.
The ACB’s announcement revealed that Jannat’s infractions occurred during the Kabul Premier League, where he attempted to influence or alter match outcomes. These actions are considered serious violations of the anti-corruption regulations set by both the ACB and the ICC.
Jannat has confessed to the charges and admitted his involvement in questionable activities. As a result, he is now barred from participating in any form of cricket for the next five years.
In addition, the ACB’s anti-corruption unit has disclosed that investigations are still underway for three other players who are suspected of similar misconduct. The board will make decisions regarding these players once the ongoing investigations are completed.
Ehsanullah Jannat made his international debut during the 2015-17 ICC Intercontinental Cup against the Netherlands. Over the course of his career, he has played in three Test matches and 16 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Afghanistan, accumulating a total of 437 runs.
