Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has made public a draft of proposals he submitted to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) negotiating committee for talks with the federal government. He said none of the demands violated the Constitution or the law.
The draft calls for political stability, constitutional supremacy, democratic continuity and resolving national issues through consultation and dialogue.
Afridi proposed regular meetings between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and opposition leaders from both houses of Parliament. These meetings would address political, constitutional, legal and democratic matters, with progress expected through negotiations.
He also proposed forming a joint political negotiating committee comprising representatives of the ruling coalition, the Pakistan Peoples Party and opposition parties. The committee would continue discussions and seek mutually acceptable solutions.
The draft further calls for ensuring the legal, humanitarian and medical rights of PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi under prison rules and applicable laws.
Afridi also proposed humanitarian consideration for women prisoners, including Yasmin Rashid and Bushra Bibi, calling for their release.
The proposals include greater federal-provincial consultation on counterterrorism and efforts to establish lasting peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Afridi said PTI would call off its long march if the federal government provided written assurances on the proposals. However, government officials later said negotiations had failed to reach an agreement.
