
Shikarpur: A senior police officer lost his life in a tragic shooting carried out by his own colleagues on Tuesday. Station House Officer Ali Hassan Jatoi died in hospital after sustaining bullet wounds near Phatak No. 2 in the Lakhi Ghulam Shah tehsil area.
Tragic Case of Friendly Fire
Local police had signalled Jatoi’s private car to stop due to a misunderstanding. When the SHO failed to halt, officers opened fire on the vehicle. Authorities rushed the injured officer to the nearest hospital, but he succumbed to his wounds shortly after arrival.
Transitioning to the immediate aftermath, the incharge of Jahan Khan Police Post, identified as Javed Bilali, fled the scene along with his accomplices. Police later recovered identification papers and other evidence from the location. Senior Superintendent of Police Kaleem Malik confirmed that an inquiry committee has already begun its work under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Asif.
Investigation Underway to Uncover Facts
They termed it as highly regrettable and said that an investigation would ascertain the real facts and identify who was at fault. It has created a stir among policemen working in the city of Shikarpur, posing some serious concerns regarding standard procedures to be followed during routine vehicle inspections.
The local populace expressed worries over the increasing number of such preventable occurrences in which the police were involved. They called for stringent measures against those responsible in order to ensure that no such tragedy would happen again in the future.
This is another case reflecting the difficulties associated with the operations being carried out by policemen, as lack of coordination and rash decisions may prove costly to lives.
