PESHAWAR: PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Secretary Shaukat Yousafzai became emotional while responding to criticism over his suggestion that the party postpone its October 4 long march towards Islamabad.
Yousafzai said he had raised concerns that court orders or allegations linking PTI with terrorism could potentially be used to justify action against party workers.
He had urged PTI leadership to delay the march, citing security concerns and the possibility of emergency rule. In a letter to party Chairman Barrister Gohar and other leaders, he called for postponement in the wider national interest.
However, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has insisted that the march will proceed on October 4. Afridi said he would reject Yousafzai’s letter if it reached him.
Shaukat Yousafzai said Afridi’s remarks had deeply hurt him, describing the chief minister as his younger brother. He also recalled that he had supported Afridi and had committed to joining the march when it was announced.
The PTI leader said he faced severe criticism and was labelled a “traitor” for raising concerns about workers’ safety. He regretted that his long association with PTI had been questioned.
Yousafzai also criticised social media activists for creating divisions within the party and rejected speculation that he could leave PTI, saying there was no question of abandoning the party.
