The Shandur Polo Festival has officially begun in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The event takes place at the worldโs highest polo ground, attracting tourists and sports enthusiasts.
The festival was inaugurated by the provincial governor. Senior government officials, including the provincial information minister and tourism adviser, also attended the ceremony.
The event marks one of the regionโs most important cultural and sporting gatherings. It continues to promote tourism and local heritage in northern Pakistan.
Government Reaffirms Support for Polo and Sports Tourism
Speaking at the inauguration, the governor assured full support for polo players. He acknowledged limited resources but praised the tourism departmentโs efforts.
He emphasized the importance of preserving traditional sports. Additionally, he highlighted plans to promote Buzkashi, a traditional Central Asian game.
“We have discussed with the Special Assistant, and we will also promote Buzkashi, a traditional Central Asian sport,” the governor said.
Tourism Expansion Plans for Chitral
Authorities announced new steps to boost tourism in Chitral. A key focus remains improving accessibility and infrastructure.
The governor confirmed that an airport in Chitral will soon be inaugurated. This is expected to improve travel convenience for tourists and residents.
He also discussed road development plans. Coordination with the National Highway Authority is expected to support road restoration projects.
“We will also speak with the National Highway Authority (NHA) for road restoration and make recommendations to the provincial government regarding road infrastructure,” he added.
These initiatives aim to strengthen tourism flow and regional connectivity.
Wheat Supply and Inter-Provincial Concerns
During the event, the governor also addressed food supply issues. He expressed gratitude to the federal government for wheat support through PASSCO.
He stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa requires 3.6 million metric tonnes of wheat. The federal government has approved 0.2 million metric tonnes.
However, he raised concerns over supply delays from Punjab. He said free movement of wheat is being restricted at border check posts.
“Under the Constitution and the new wheat policy, free movement of wheat and flour is our right. The Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Punjab must take notice of the situation at these check posts,” Kundi asserted.
He urged uninterrupted wheat and flour supply to ensure food availability for the population.
Energy and Development Updates
The governor also shared updates on energy-related issues. He stated that the CNG situation in the province has been resolved.
He further promised continued efforts to address public issues. His focus, he said, remains on improving infrastructure and restoring peace.

The Shandur Polo Festival continues to play a key role in promoting northern Pakistan. It attracts domestic and international visitors each year.
The event also supports local businesses and cultural exchange. Officials believe improved infrastructure will further increase tourism in the coming years.
