Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has expressed disappointment over Karachi’s roads and infrastructure. He also said he finds it amusing when people compare Karachi with Paris.
Afridi made the remarks during a podcast hosted by former Test cricketer Fawad Alam. He said moving from Karachi to Islamabad had been a difficult decision.
Afridi Praises Islamabad While Missing Karachi People
Afridi described Karachi as a city filled with “wonderful people” and recalled spending much time there. However, he praised Islamabad for its pleasant weather and better infrastructure.
He also highlighted Islamabad’s motorway connections with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country. Afridi said he does not particularly miss Karachi itself, but misses its people.
The former captain recently visited Karachi’s Korangi area and expressed disappointment over the roads. He expected improvements after returning following a long absence, but said the situation saddened him.
Former Captain Questions Karachi Development
Afridi also criticised the condition of University Road, saying he had seen similar conditions for years. He questioned why the road had remained in the same state for such a long period.
However, Afridi praised the work completed on Shahrah-e-Bhutto and said it deserved appreciation. He stressed that authorities must complete more development projects across Karachi.
He added that authorities cannot satisfy themselves or residents by completing only one or two projects. Afridi’s comments highlighted his concerns about Karachi’s infrastructure and ongoing development.
