Hollywood actress Selma Blair appeared emotional during a court hearing in New York on Monday, October 12, after facing assault charges linked to an alleged incident aboard a Delta Air Lines flight.
The 54-year-old Cruel Intentions star pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault. A judge set bail at $20,000 in cash or a $60,000 bond, and Blair was subsequently released.
Alleged Incident on Delta Flight
The case follows an incident on a flight from Los Angeles to New York on October 11. Authorities said two flight attendants reported injuries after the alleged altercation, with one taken to hospital for further evaluation. Police arrested Blair after the aircraft arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport. She was then taken for medical assessment.
According to court documents, Blair allegedly kicked a police officer who was helping transport her to hospital. She is also accused of kicking a nurse who was assisting with her treatment.
The officer reportedly suffered swelling and significant pain, while the nurse reported chest pain. These allegations remain subject to legal proceedings.
Defence Cites Medical Emergency
Blair’s representative said the actress experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged behaviour. The representative added that she received medical attention after landing and was in stable condition.
During the hearing, her defence team also argued that the incident was not intentional. Reports said her lawyers pointed to severe confusion and disorientation as part of their explanation.
Blair has previously spoken publicly about living with multiple sclerosis, which she disclosed in 2018. However, the precise medical circumstances surrounding the latest incident have not been fully established publicly.
Investigation Continues
Delta Air Lines said it has zero tolerance for disruptive or unlawful behaviour and prioritises the safety of passengers and crew. Authorities are continuing to investigate the alleged incident aboard the aircraft, while the separate assault charges relate to the officer and nurse.
Blair’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 19, 2027. The case remains ongoing, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
