National coordinators of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will meet in Islamabad from September 28 to 30. The meeting will discuss activities planned under Pakistan’s chairmanship and other matters concerning the regional organization.
According to the Foreign Office, the gathering will mark the first meeting of the SCO Council of National Coordinators under Pakistan’s chairmanship. Pakistan currently holds the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026-27.
Pakistan to Lead SCO Coordination
Pakistan’s national coordinator for the SCO will chair the meeting in Islamabad. National coordinators from other SCO member states will also attend, alongside representatives from the SCO Secretariat.
The participants will discuss several areas of cooperation and coordination within the organization. Furthermore, they will review the programme of activities under Pakistan’s chairmanship and preparations for upcoming SCO meetings and events.
Pakistan’s Priorities During Chairmanship
Pakistan will seek to advance the SCO’s objectives under the theme “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity”. According to the Foreign Office, the country will focus on greater connectivity, innovation, economic cooperation and stronger people-to-people contacts.
The government said these priorities aim to turn the shared vision of SCO members into practical and mutually beneficial initiatives. Meanwhile, Pakistan will work with member states and the SCO Secretariat to strengthen cooperation across the organization.
The upcoming meeting will also support preparations for several high-level engagements during Pakistan’s chairmanship. These activities will include preparations for the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting, which Pakistan plans to host in August 2027.
