The Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp has announced that it will discontinue support for specific Android smartphones starting October 24.
As of October 14, 2023, WhatsApp has confirmed that it will cease to function on older smartphones operating on outdated operating systems. Consequently, if you own one of these devices, you may need to consider upgrading to a newer phone.
Currently, WhatsApp supports Android operating systems from version 4.1 and onward. However, beginning on October 24, 2023, the messaging app will only be compatible with Android versions 5.0 or later.
If your Android device runs on an older version, you won’t be able to use WhatsApp unless you update your device to Android 5.0 or a more recent version.
WhatsApp is a globally popular messaging application that enables users to exchange text, photo, and video messages. Moreover, it boasts over 1 billion monthly active users worldwide and is accessible on a wide range of devices. These devices include smartphones, tablets, computers, and some smart TVs.
It’s worth noting that the messaging app ended support for iPhones running iOS 10 and 11 on October 24, 2022. If your iPhone is on either of these older operating systems, you won’t be able to use WhatsApp. To continue using the app on your iPhone, you’ll need to update your device’s operating system to iOS 12 or a newer version.
