ISLAMABAD: Instagram is experimenting with a new “dislike button” feature, designed to give users a private way to express dissatisfaction with specific comments, according to Instagram head Adam Mosseri in a post on Threads.
The feature appears as a downward-facing arrow next to the like button on comments.
“I want to be clear: this is just a test. There’s no public dislike count, and no one will know if you tap the button,” Mosseri clarified. He mentioned that Instagram might eventually use this input to adjust comment rankings, potentially pushing disliked comments lower. “Our hope is that this will help foster friendlier interactions on Instagram,” he added.
An Instagram spokesperson, Christine Pai, told The Verge, “We’re testing a new button next to comments on Reels or Feed posts to allow users to privately signal when they don’t feel good about a comment or find it irrelevant. This test is currently being conducted with a small group of users.”
Pai also hinted that in the future, Instagram might experiment with moving disliked comments lower in the thread to enhance the overall experience. “We’re working on ways to help people better control their Instagram experience and improve what they see on the app,” she added.
