LAHORE: A school’s outer wall collapsed during the landing of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s helicopter in Arifwala. The incident was captured on video and quickly circulated online.
The helicopter landed at a temporary helipad inside a housing colony. Moments later, the school’s boundary wall fell to the ground. Initial reports suggested the powerful air pressure from the helicopter caused the collapse.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. Authorities have not released a detailed statement explaining the damage. Maryam Nawaz had arrived in Arifwala to inaugurate Eminence School. Meanwhile, officials continued the scheduled event despite the incident. The video attracted public attention and raised concerns about safety arrangements near temporary helipads.
Chief minister highlights development projects
Earlier, Maryam Nawaz said she could not sleep for three days after the recent roof collapse tragedy in Lahore. She expressed sorrow while speaking at a public ceremony. Moreover, she said the Punjab government wanted to launch development projects in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
She rejected claims that only Lahore receives government attention. Instead, she said development work continues across Punjab. Furthermore, she described every Punjab resident as the government’s responsibility. She also urged people to support leaders who deliver practical results. Maryam Nawaz added that Punjab now operates Pakistan’s largest public transport system. She announced electric bus services would expand to nine more districts by July’s end.
Additionally, 1,100 electric buses will operate by August 15, while the government aims to expand the fleet to 5,000 within five years.
