The Supreme Court of Pakistan has granted interim bail to Jamshed Dasti in a criminal case involving an allegedly fake degree. The court also directed all provincial and federal police chiefs not to arrest him in connection with the case.
A two-member bench, headed by Justice Shahzad Malik, heard the matter on Thursday, October 15. The court granted interim relief and adjourned further proceedings until October 22.
Court Orders Police Chiefs Not to Arrest Dasti
During the hearing, the Supreme Court instructed all inspectors general of police (IGs) to refrain from arresting Dasti in the case.
The interim bail provides temporary protection while the legal proceedings continue. It does not amount to a final decision on the allegations against him. The court will take up the matter again on October 22.
Fake Degree Case Has a Long Legal History
Dasti has faced legal proceedings over allegations concerning his educational credentials. In July 2025, the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified him over an intermediate certificate it found to be fake.
A separate criminal case also concerns allegations of forged educational documents. In September 2025, a district and sessions court in Multan sentenced Dasti to a prison term in the long-running fake degree case. The proceedings have continued through different legal forums, with Dasti challenging the decisions against him.
Next Hearing Scheduled for October 22
The Supreme Court’s latest order grants Dasti interim relief while the case remains pending. The next hearing is scheduled for October 22, when the court is expected to continue examining the matter.
The outcome will depend on further proceedings and the court’s assessment of the case. The interim bail order does not resolve the underlying allegations.
