Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye will hold an urgent meeting of their military chiefs to discuss support for Riyadh following attacks by Yemen’s Houthis.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in New York on Thursday.
The meeting took place at Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations during consultations under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
The ministers reviewed progress on establishing the agreement’s general secretariat, committees and working groups.
They also discussed preparations for the bodies to begin their operations.
The three ministers strongly condemned attacks targeting Makkah and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
They praised Saudi forces for defending the Kingdom’s security and reaffirmed Riyadh’s right to take necessary measures under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
Meanwhile, the ministers discussed arrangements for an urgent meeting between the military chiefs of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye.
The meeting will examine ways to support Saudi Arabia under the joint defence agreement.
The agreement states that an attack against one member constitutes an attack against all parties.
Furthermore, the ministers stressed international law, sovereignty, non-interference and freedom of maritime navigation.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability, de-escalation and peaceful solutions to ongoing conflicts.
