Saudi Arabia suspended operations at an airport after Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis attacked the airport. Houthi movement claimed responsibility for a drone attack on the Najran Airport.
The source said the strike targeted Najran Airport near the Yemeni border. Moreover, the airport’s main radar was reportedly damaged, disrupting flight operations.
Meanwhile, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed the group successfully struck a sensitive target at the airport using a drone. He said the attack responded to alleged Saudi drone operations over Yemen’s Saada and Hajjah governorates.
However, Saudi authorities had not officially commented on the reported attack at the time of reporting.
The airport’s website listed the status of scheduled flights for the coming days as unknown. Najran Airport operates a single terminal and handles only a limited number of daily flights.
The latest incident follows rising tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. Last month, the group announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia and later claimed attacks on oil tankers and energy infrastructure.
In response, Saudi Arabia launched strikes targeting Houthi positions inside Yemen.
The renewed fighting marks the first major exchange of hostilities since a 2022 truce. The conflict also reflects broader regional tensions following the escalation between the United States and Iran.
Reports have also suggested Saudi Arabia may be preparing for a larger military operation against Houthi forces, although officials have not confirmed those claims.
