Samsung has introduced its latest AI-powered smart glasses during the Galaxy Unpacked event, expanding its wearable technology lineup with a device designed for everyday use.
Unlike the Galaxy XR headset, which focuses on gaming and professional mixed reality experiences, the new smart glasses prioritize hands-free AI assistance, voice interaction, and camera-powered features.
Samsung developed the platform in partnership with Google and Qualcomm, while eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker created the glasses’ stylish designs.
Android XR Powers Samsung’s New Smart Glasses
The smart glasses run on Android XR and feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor.
The AR1 chipset is specifically designed for lightweight smart glasses. It differs from the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor used in Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset, which supports more demanding mixed reality applications.
Samsung designed the glasses to offer AI-powered experiences without the size and weight of traditional XR headsets.
Google Gemini Brings AI Assistance to Wearables
Samsung has integrated Google Gemini into the smart glasses through a version optimized for wearable devices.
The built-in camera allows Gemini to understand the user’s surroundings and provide helpful assistance.
For example, users can capture a whiteboard, and Gemini can organize the information directly into a notes application.
The camera also supports first-person video recording and allows users to share their live view during video calls.
AI Features Focus on Everyday Convenience
Samsung equipped the glasses with several AI-powered tools to simplify daily tasks.
The device can summarize lengthy messages and read important information aloud, allowing users to stay informed without checking a phone.
Additionally, the glasses support real-time language translation, making communication easier while traveling abroad.
Users can also receive turn-by-turn navigation and information about nearby landmarks or attractions during sightseeing and everyday travel.
Screen-Free Design Offers Hands-Free Experience
Unlike many augmented reality devices, Samsung’s smart glasses do not include a display.
Instead, they rely on voice responses, audio feedback, camera-based awareness, and AI assistance to deliver information naturally.
According to Samsung, this approach allows users to access AI without constantly looking at a screen.
The company also confirmed it is developing separate augmented reality glasses that will feature built-in displays.
Voice Controls and Fashion-Focused Designs
Users can operate the glasses using voice commands, touch-sensitive controls on the temples, or connected smart devices.
Samsung showcased two design options during the launch.
Gentle Monster created a slim black frame with a modern shape, while Warby Parker introduced a brown frame designed for comfortable everyday wear.
Samsung Expands Its AI Wearable Ecosystem
Samsung said AI-powered eyewear represents a new way for people to interact with artificial intelligence throughout the day.
Won-Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience business, said smart glasses can deliver more personalized AI support during everyday activities.
Google’s Sameer Samat added that Android XR and Gemini will enable the glasses to understand users’ surroundings and respond more naturally.
Samsung has not yet announced the pricing or release date for the AI smart glasses.
