Sajjad Haider Khan has officially assumed charge as Pakistan’s new Foreign Office spokesperson, replacing Tahir Hussain Andrabi.
Khan currently serves as Director General South Asia at the Foreign Office, while taking on his new responsibility.
The appointment notification has been issued, formally confirming the change at the Foreign Office spokesperson’s office.
His appointment brings an experienced diplomat into a key position responsible for communicating Pakistan’s foreign policy.
A diplomat with experience across several countries
Sajjad Haider Khan hails from Gilgit-Baltistan and has served in several important diplomatic assignments abroad.
During his career, he served at Pakistan’s diplomatic missions in Damascus, Budapest, Berlin and Jakarta.
He also served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belarus from 2020 to 2025, adding senior diplomatic experience to his profile.
Khan holds a master’s degree in Political Science from the University of the Punjab, Lahore.
He speaks Urdu, English, Arabic and Balti, while also possessing proficiency in German, Indonesian and Russian.
His experience across different diplomatic missions has given him exposure to varied international environments and foreign policy matters.
Tahir Andrabi moves to Geneva
The change in spokesperson was formally marked during Tahir Hussain Andrabi’s final briefing at the Foreign Office.
Andrabi introduced Sajjad Haider Khan during the briefing before handing over responsibility for the spokesperson’s office.
He will now serve as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
Andrabi also expressed confidence that Khan would successfully lead the Foreign Office spokesperson’s office.
Meanwhile, Khan’s appointment comes as he continues serving as Director General South Asia at the Foreign Office.
His diplomatic background and experience in several countries will now form part of his responsibilities as Pakistan’s foreign policy spokesperson.
