TV host and actor Sahir Lodhi has been booked in Karachi over allegations involving bounced cheques issued to a woman who claimed she invested Rs4 million with him.
The Karachi police registered the case following directions from a court. However, no arrest has been made in connection with the case so far.
Court Orders FIR Against Sahir Lodhi
According to the FIR, Naghma Gul, who is described as a business partner of Lodhi, approached the court after several cheques allegedly issued by the actor were dishonoured.
The Shah Latif Town police registered the FIR under Section 489-F and Section 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Section 489-F relates to dishonestly issuing a cheque that is later dishonoured. Meanwhile, Section 34 concerns acts carried out with common intention.
Police said the case was registered in compliance with the courtโs order. However, authorities have not made any arrests in the matter.
Complainant Alleges Rs4 Million Investment
According to the FIR, Naghma Gul is a widow and a resident of Landhi. She stated that she invested Rs4 million with Lodhi after receiving a suggestion from someone she knew.
The complainant alleged that the amount was given to Lodhi for investment purposes. Subsequently, she said, he paid her profits from the investment on two occasions.
According to her claim, she initially received Rs250,000 and Rs400,000 as profit payments.
However, the dispute allegedly emerged later when several cheques issued by Lodhi were not honoured.
Eight Cheques Allegedly Bounced
The complainant claimed that Lodhi subsequently issued eight cheques at different times. She alleged that all of them bounced because of insufficient funds in the account.
After the cheques were allegedly dishonoured, Gul approached the district judge in Malir to seek legal action against the actor.
The court subsequently directed police to proceed with the case. As a result, the Shah Latif Town police registered the FIR.
The allegations remain part of an ongoing legal matter, and no arrest has been reported so far.
