Pakistan will host the SAF Games from April 4 to 11, 2027, with preparations advancing under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Dar chaired a meeting of the Steering Committee overseeing preparations for the regional sporting event. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials finalised the dates in coordination with the South Asian Olympic Committee.
The meeting also approved the appointment of a National Coordinator and finalised the composition of the Steering, Organising and Provincial Committees. Furthermore, officials reviewed arrangements needed to ensure smooth preparations for the major sporting competition.
28 Sports to Feature at SAF Games
A total of 28 sports will be contested during the Games, while more than 6,000 athletes and officials are expected to participate. Events will take place in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Dar directed all relevant authorities to maintain close coordination and complete sporting venues on time. He also stressed the need to uphold high standards while preparing Pakistan to host athletes and officials from across South Asia.
Monthly Meetings to Track Preparations
The deputy prime minister further instructed the Steering Committee to meet every month to monitor progress and address emerging issues. Consequently, officials will regularly review venue readiness, organisational arrangements and other preparations leading up to the Games.
The meeting included the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Inter-Provincial Coordination, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretary IPC, representatives of provincial governments and senior federal and provincial officials.
Meanwhile, the government expects coordinated efforts between federal and provincial authorities to ensure successful hosting of the Games. The event is expected to bring thousands of athletes and officials to Pakistan, providing an important platform for regional sporting competition and engagement.
