Two people were killed after Russia launched ballistic missile strikes across Ukraineโs capital, Kyiv. The attack came hours after Ukraine and the European Union announced a new drone cooperation agreement.
Ukrainian officials said explosions were reported across several districts of the capital. Emergency services responded to multiple fires caused by the missile attacks.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that six other people were injured in the assault. Among the wounded was a 16-year-old boy, while three victims required hospital treatment.
Missile Attack Triggers Fires Across Kyiv
According to Klitschko, emergency crews battled fires at several locations throughout the city. A warehouse in the Sviatoshynskyi district and a non-residential building in Darnytskyi were damaged.
Additionally, falling missile debris struck another non-residential development in Darnytsia, igniting further fires. Rescue teams continued assessing the damage after the attacks.
The latest assault followed a visit by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. During her trip, she announced a new drone cooperation agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.
Ukraine, EU Announce Drone Cooperation
The agreement aims to combine Ukraineโs battlefield experience with Europeโs industrial capabilities. Officials said the partnership would accelerate joint drone production and technological development.
Speaking on Ukraineโs Statehood Day, von der Leyen highlighted the importance of closer cooperation. She said Europe could provide advanced technology, industrial capacity, and secure production facilities.
Meanwhile, fighting continues to intensify across Ukraine after more than four years of war. On Wednesday, Ukrainian officials reported that Russian bombardments killed 13 people and injured around 50 others nationwide.
Authorities said the attacks targeted industrial facilities and healthcare centres in Odesa and Sumy. Civilian casualties have continued rising as both sides intensify military operations.
