Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a four-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Russia.
The visit marks the first time a Russian interior minister has travelled to Pakistan. Kolokoltsev arrived at the invitation of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and was received by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.
Leaders To Discuss Bilateral Cooperation
During his stay, the Russian minister is scheduled to hold important meetings with Pakistan’s political leadership. Discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and identifying opportunities for greater cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The visit follows earlier engagements between the interior ministers, who discussed counterterrorism, counter-narcotics, cybercrime and joint police training during a meeting at the United Nations in July.
Both countries have expressed interest in developing stronger cooperation to address shared security challenges. The latest visit is expected to build on those discussions and establish further avenues for collaboration.
Pakistan And Russia Seek Stronger Ties
Pakistan and Russia have expanded their engagement in recent years, particularly in trade, energy and regional security. Both countries have also explored opportunities to improve economic cooperation and strengthen diplomatic relations.
Russia has shown interest in expanding its economic partnerships in Asia, while Pakistan has sought additional avenues for trade, energy supplies and regional connectivity.
The visit also comes amid broader diplomatic engagement between the two countries through regional platforms and high-level meetings. Officials expect the discussions to help maintain momentum in bilateral relations.
Kolokoltsev’s four-day visit provides an opportunity for both sides to review existing cooperation and consider further measures to strengthen ties. The outcomes of his meetings could shape future engagement between Pakistan and Russia, particularly in security and law enforcement.
