The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has revealed a specialized skill that could boost engineers’ earning potential. According to the ministry, trained professionals in Integrated Circuit (IC) Design and Verification can earn around Rs150,000 monthly.
The figure emerged in a written response submitted to the National Assembly. The response covered government initiatives designed to develop specialized technology skills and create employment opportunities for young engineers.
The government-backed training programme received funding from Ignite, the National Technology Fund under the Ministry of IT and Telecom. FAST-NUCES implemented the programme as part of efforts to strengthen specialized engineering skills.
Training Focused on Advanced Semiconductor Skills
The programme trained 30 engineers selected from 20 districts across Pakistan. The group included seven women, highlighting participation from engineers across different parts of the country.
Participants received specialized training in advanced IC design and VLSI verification. They also studied System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture and worked with industry-standard design tools.
Additionally, the programme provided exposure to chip tapeout and fabrication processes. These areas form an important part of the specialized training provided to participants.
The programme therefore focused on skills directly connected with semiconductor engineering and IC development. It aimed to prepare engineers for professional opportunities requiring advanced technical expertise.
Most Trained Engineers Secured Semiconductor Jobs
The training programme also produced a strong employment outcome for its participants. According to the ministry, 23 of the 30 trained engineers secured jobs in Pakistan’s semiconductor industry.
Meanwhile, the remaining seven trainees chose to pursue master’s degrees for further specialization. Their decision reflects another pathway available to engineers seeking advanced expertise in the field.
The employment of 23 participants also indicates demand for professionals with specialized IC Design and Verification skills. Consequently, the training provided participants with skills that could translate into opportunities within Pakistan’s semiconductor industry.
Engineers Can Earn Around Rs150,000 or More
According to information from Ignite shared with the National Assembly, fresh professionals with IC Design and Verification skills can earn approximately Rs150,000 or more each month.
The ministry said the initiative aims to develop skilled human resources for Pakistan’s semiconductor sector. The sector requires specialized engineering expertise, making advanced technical training increasingly important for potential employment opportunities.
The programme’s results also highlight the connection between specialized training and employment. With 23 trained engineers already securing local semiconductor jobs, the initiative has provided a direct route from technical training to professional opportunities.
