The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has directed Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to submit its reply regarding medical facilities for retired employees. The matter concerns healthcare benefits for former employees and the airline’s arrangements for providing those services.
Dispute Over Retirees’ Medical Benefits
Medical coverage for retired PIA employees has remained a subject of legal proceedings following changes to the airline’s healthcare arrangements.
Under the new arrangement, PIA shifted responsibility for medical services to State Life Insurance Corporation. However, retired employees raised concerns about restrictions on treatment and access to healthcare facilities.
Their representatives argued that the revised system affected benefits previously available under the airline’s policies.
Courts Examine Healthcare Arrangements
The dispute has also reached the Sindh High Court, where retired employees challenged changes to their medical coverage.
In earlier proceedings, the court ordered the restoration of medical facilities under the previous system. It also questioned the legality of restrictions introduced through the new insurance arrangement.
The petitioners maintained that retired employees should continue receiving medical benefits under the applicable laws and policies.
PIA’s Response Awaited
The FCC’s direction seeks PIA’s formal response to the matter. Further proceedings will help clarify the airline’s position and the legal questions surrounding retirees’ healthcare entitlements.
The dispute highlights continuing concerns about medical coverage for former employees following changes in PIA’s ownership and administrative structure.
The latest development keeps the issue under judicial consideration as retired employees seek clarity over their healthcare rights.
