Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani arrived in Phnom Penh on Tuesday. He will lead Pakistan’s delegation at the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC).
The Kingdom of Cambodia is hosting the conference. The event aims to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and international dialogue.
Senior Cambodian officials and government representatives welcomed Gilani upon arrival. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Sardar Zaheer Uddin Babar Thaheem, also attended the reception.
Pakistan Highlights Commitment to Parliamentary Cooperation
During his arrival, Gilani thanked the Senate of Cambodia and the Royal Government for hosting the conference. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and international cooperation.
Gilani said dialogue and collective efforts remain essential for peace and sustainable development. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for stronger ties among nations.
The inaugural ISC session took place in Pakistan in November 2025. Cambodia is now hosting the second edition of the conference.
Chairman Senate to Address Plenary Session
Cambodian Senator Sles Punnayamin welcomed Gilani and praised the strong relations between the two countries. He noted Gilani’s longstanding relationship with Senate President Hun Sen.
During the conference, Gilani will address a plenary session. He will discuss the role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting peace, inclusivity and cooperation.
On the sidelines of the event, he will hold meetings with parliamentary leaders and delegation heads. These discussions will focus on bilateral relations and parliamentary collaboration.
Pakistan’s participation reflects its commitment to multilateral engagement. It also highlights the country’s support for peace through parliamentary dialogue.
Later, ISC Secretary General Ek Nath Dhakal and members of the ISC Secretariat received Gilani at his hotel. They accorded him a warm reception upon arrival.
