A Rawalpindi hotel owner has approached the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench against repeated business closures during protests. Ahtisham ul Haq, through advocate Nazakat Hussain Abbasi, challenged verbal orders issued by the district administration and police.
The petitioner claimed authorities had shut hotels more than 20 times within a year. He said officials had also ordered the closure of his hotel for an indefinite period, causing serious financial difficulties.
Business Shutdowns Affect Hotel Operations
According to the petition, repeated closures have worsened the challenges businesses already face because of the difficult economic conditions. The petitioner said prolonged shutdowns have made it increasingly difficult to pay utility bills, employee salaries and rent.
He also argued that authorities should not continue closing businesses indefinitely through verbal instructions. Therefore, the petitioner urged the court to protect hotel operators from repeated disruptions and administrative pressure.
Officials Named As Respondents
The petition named Punjab Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner and Rawalpindi City Police Officer as respondents. Additionally, SP Rawal and SHO Pir Wadhai were included as parties in the case.
The petitioner asked the LHC Rawalpindi bench to issue a restraining order against alleged harassment by police and administrative officials. He also requested immediate orders for reopening the affected hotels.
The case highlights concerns from business owners over repeated closures during protests and their financial impact. Meanwhile, the court will consider the petitioner’s request for relief against the closure orders and alleged harassment.
