Pakistan is set for a noticeable weather shift as a new westerly system moves into the upper parts of the country.
The system is expected to enter the region tonight and influence weather conditions through October 7. As a result, several areas could experience rain, strong winds and thunderstorms during the coming days.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the main impact is expected on October 6 and 7. The weather system could affect parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Several Areas
Under the influence of the new system, several areas may receive rain accompanied by strong and gusty winds.
Thunderstorms are also expected in affected areas, while isolated locations could experience hailstorms. Therefore, residents in these regions may see a change from the prevailing weather conditions.
The weather system is expected to remain influential until October 7. Meanwhile, people in areas likely to receive rain and thunderstorms have been advised to remain mindful of changing conditions.
Balochistan May Also Receive Rain
The weather change will not remain limited to the northern and upper parts of Pakistan.
In Balochistan, rain is expected in Barkhan and Musa Khel during the evening or night of October 6. These areas could therefore experience a temporary shift in weather conditions.
Meanwhile, most districts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and dry over the next few days. The province is therefore likely to experience different conditions compared with areas affected by the westerly system.
Temperatures Could Fall by Up to 4 Degrees
The incoming weather system may also bring a noticeable drop in temperatures across affected areas.
According to the meteorological advisory, temperatures could decline by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. The change may provide some relief from warmer conditions in areas experiencing the temperature decrease.
However, strong winds and hailstorms could create risks for vulnerable structures and infrastructure. Consequently, residents should remain alert during periods of severe weather.
Farmers Advised to Adjust Agricultural Activities
The changing weather could also affect agricultural activities in areas expecting rain, strong winds or hailstorms.
The Meteorological Department has advised farmers to plan activities according to the latest weather conditions. This includes scheduling harvesting and crop maintenance while considering the expected weather.
Farmers may therefore need to monitor weather updates before carrying out important field activities. This approach can help them plan their work around the incoming weather system.
The new westerly system is expected to influence weather across several parts of Pakistan through October 7. While Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan may receive rain and thunderstorms, Barkhan and Musa Khel could see rain in Balochistan.
At the same time, most parts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and dry. The expected temperature drop and possibility of strong winds and hailstorms have also prompted weather-related caution.
