Queen Camilla has received a new royal honour after the launch of an award bearing her name. The recognition highlights her continued support for journalism and young professionals entering the industry.
The Journalists’ Charity announced the Queen Camilla Future of Journalism Awards. Moreover, the initiative makes Camilla the first royal to have the organisation dedicate an award in her honour.
King Charles III’s wife has served as the charity’s patron since 2022. The organisation was founded by Charles Dickens in 1864 and received a Royal Charter from Queen Victoria in 1890.
Journalists’ Charity Launches New Royal Award
Queen Camilla has long promoted reading and literacy through The Queen’s Reading Room. She established the initiative during the Covid-19 pandemic to encourage people of all ages to enjoy books.
Now, she is extending her support to journalism by backing the new awards programme. Consequently, the scheme aims to help aspiring journalists develop their careers through financial and professional support.
James Brindle, Chief Executive of the Journalists’ Charity, welcomed the initiative. He said the Queen’s patronage would help support emerging talent when journalism remains more important than ever.
Awards Aim To Support Young Journalists Nationwide
The Queen Camilla Future of Journalism Awards are open for applications throughout August. Each year, the programme will recognise 25 journalists aged between 18 and 30.
Recipients will receive financial assistance, career guidance and mentoring opportunities. Furthermore, winners will attend a special ceremony alongside leading figures from the journalism industry.
Brindle said the awards would create meaningful opportunities for the next generation of journalists. He added that the programme would provide talented young professionals with resources to strengthen their careers.
The initiative also reflects Queen Camilla’s continued commitment to education, literacy and public service. Therefore, the new awards are expected to encourage excellence and innovation across the journalism profession.
