The Punjab government has proposed a Rs4.23 billion residential project for government officials in Lahore.
The project includes luxury apartments and several high-end facilities.
It is part of the province’s development budget for fiscal year 2026-27.
24 Apartments Planned on Burki Road
The proposed complex will be built on 60 kanals and one marla of government-owned land along Burki Road in Lahore Cantonment.
According to official documents, the Services and General Administration Department plans to construct 24 two-bedroom apartments for government officials.
The main residential building will include a basement, ground floor and six additional floors.
Its construction cost is estimated at more than Rs2.05 billion.
Luxury Facilities Included
The complex is planned to include several premium facilities.
These include:
- VIP gym
- Library
- Indoor games area
- Seminar room
- VIP executive lounge
- Café
A separate convention hall covering around 40,246 square feet is also part of the project.
The convention hall is estimated to cost Rs547.2 million.
Parking and Other Costs
The project includes parking facilities for 164 cars and 47 motorcycles.
A separate basement parking facility for 26 vehicles has also been proposed.
Other major expenses include more than Rs145.1 million for generators.
More than Rs55.4 million has been allocated for a solar power system.
External development works are estimated to cost Rs335.8 million.
The project also includes more than Rs152.1 million for furniture.
Another Rs10 million has been proposed for gym equipment.
Officials Raise Cost Concerns
The Planning and Development Department’s technical wing has raised concerns about the project’s overall cost.
Officials questioned the need for expensive facilities and imported construction materials.
The technical wing has recommended reviewing spending on elevators, heating and cooling systems, generators and solar installations.
It also called for a review of backup power arrangements and other costly components.
The Provincial Development Working Party also reviewed the project.
It considered the estimated cost of more than Rs4.23 billion excessive.
Officials specifically questioned the proposed basement parking for 26 vehicles.
They said the facility could be an expensive use of resources.
The department has been directed to consider surface parking instead.
Officials noted that sufficient space is available at the proposed site.
The project is expected to take 24 months to complete.
