The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has introduced compulsory uniform requirements for doctors and healthcare workers across the province. The new directive applies to medical treatment facilities covered under Category-I and Category-IIA classifications.
Issued on Friday under Section 4(2)(o) of the PHC Act 2010, the instructions establish specific uniform colours for different healthcare roles. Hospitals and other covered medical facilities must ensure their staff follow the requirements.
PHC Announces Uniform Colours for Healthcare Staff
Under the new rules, healthcare workers must wear designated uniforms according to their professional roles.
The prescribed uniform colours include:
- Doctors: Blue uniforms
- Paramedical staff: Green uniforms
- Laboratory personnel: White coats
- Sanitation workers: Standardised uniforms
The colour-based system aims to distinguish different categories of hospital staff. Consequently, patients and visitors can identify healthcare personnel more easily within medical facilities.
Short-Sleeved Uniforms Required to Help Prevent Infections
The PHC has also directed doctors and healthcare workers to wear short-sleeved uniforms. This requirement forms part of the commission’s instructions aimed at helping prevent infections in healthcare settings.
Additionally, the commission has prohibited staff from wearing their designated uniforms outside hospital premises. Healthcare workers must therefore keep their professional uniforms within their respective workplaces.
Which Healthcare Facilities Must Follow the Rules?
The uniform requirements apply to Category-I and Category-IIA healthcare establishments across Punjab. The PHC has instructed medical facilities throughout the province to ensure compliance.
Therefore, hospitals and other covered treatment centres must implement the prescribed dress code for their respective staff categories.
The new directive establishes uniform standards across covered healthcare facilities. Moreover, it sets clear expectations for staff attire, including designated colours, short sleeves and restrictions on wearing uniforms outside hospital premises.
